Creating Impact for Families in Henry County and beyond.

Smith Family Foundation for Change Inc. (S4C)

Laura LaVone Qualls Smith was born in Memphis, TN, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in the fall of 1968. She will always be remembered as a resilient mother on the east side of Cleveland, particularly at the Rainbow Terrace Apartment Building on 79th and Kinsman, Garden Valley Avenue. Laura treated every child in the community like family. Her contributions to the community and her strength in raising four children serve as an inspiration to us all. She exemplified what it means to be the rock of a family and represented hope for the Qualls-Smith family. A true example of overcoming adversity, her persistence became a beacon of light for other single mothers in the community.

This foundation was established by Javier M. Smith and his family in honor of their mother, aiming to leave a legacy of hope, foster community partnerships, and support low-income families by providing basic essentials, including school supplies, childcare assistance, and living expenses throughout the year.

The "4" in the Smith Family Foundation for Change Inc. (S4C) represents Laura LaVone Qualls Smith's four children: Darryl Keith Smith, Kimberly Robinson-Smith, Charles Edwards Smith Jr., and Javier Markeefee Smith. The foundation's goal is to serve the community, fill the resource gaps for families in need, elevate the S4C brand, and carry on the name and legacy of Laura LaVone Qualls Smith.

Financial Assistance

We believe that creating additional financial resources has potential to help families in need. Paying for quality childcare and living expenses can be a struggle for many families in the United States. The cost of childcare is often the biggest part of a family’s budget and can be higher than the cost of housing, food, or even college tuition.
